Call For Choreographers: Modern Atlanta Dance Festival
Apply to be presented at the Festival
The Modern Atlanta Dance Festival (MAD), created by Full Radius Dance in 1995, is an annual event celebrating the diversity and excellence of Atlanta's modern dance scene. MAD engages audiences with high quality, entertaining and engaging dance, bringing together diverse artists from all over our region. Through the years, over ninety different companies and individual artists have appeared at the festival.
The 2020 Festival will take place June 26th & 27th at the Balzer Theatre at Herren's in downtown Atlanta.
Festival participants are selected by a professional, out-of-region panel of jurors and curated by Artistic Director Douglas Scott. Applications and support materials will be used to select companies and artists to be invited into the festival. Applicants may receive feedback from jurors even if not selected for the festival.
All materials are required; incomplete applications will not be processed.
Participation in the Festival is offered to companies and artists free of charge. There is no application fee and no participation fee. Full Radius Dance conducts fundraising throughout the year in order to be able to produce the festival and provide performance fees to the participating companies. Festival participants are expected to engage fully in festival marketing, community, and audience engagement activities, which include things like community workshops and the Pioneer of Atlanta Dance Award.
Festival participants agree to perform selected audience engagement, marketing and fundraising activities according to materials and schedule provided by festival personnel.
Selected companies or artists, in addition to having their work produced in a professionally appointed theatre with a professional technical crew, are compensated financially with an artists' fee.
Artists or companies who are based in Georgia are eligible to apply for the festival. Artists/companies are responsible for any travel costs incurred, and for any expenses beyond normal presentation costs (set, props, special lighting instruments, etc). Works must be appropriate for all ages, and must be choreographed and performed at a professional level.
Only one work will be accepted per artist or company, and works or excerpts of works must be under 15 minutes in length.
A supporting video is required and it is strongly recommended that it be part of your proposed work and if possible, with actual cast. Supporting video should be no longer than 5 minutes. All fields and video are required; incomplete applications will not be considered.
You will improve your chances of selection by creating a video which is a clean run, shot against a neutral and uncluttered background, is not shaky, and is a flat front view containing the entire stage area. Panelists are instructed not to view more than five minutes of video per application.
