Preschool/Early Elementary drama camp instructor / Teaching Artist

Forefront Arts Children's Theatre

About ForefrontArts: We are a mobile children's theatre company with 20+ locations throughout metro-Atlanta. We provide after-school theatre classes, school drama clubs, community theatre youth productions, workshops for schools and libraries, and summer drama camps & performances.

Job Responsibilities: Oversee Creative Dramatics camps (ages 3-6, depending on the week). Most camps run 9am-3 pm, but some part-time 9 am - 1 pm camp staff positions may be offered. Greet students & parents as they arrive each morning, lead daily physical & vocal warmups, imagination games, read storybooks, teach basic theatre concepts (parts of the stage, projection, cheating out, etc). Teach performance numbers for that week's camp show -- Mary Poppins, Wizard of Oz/Wicked, Pirates & Pixies, or Shrek the Musical/Fairytales. Lead drama games, oversee snack & lunchtime (kids bring their own food from home), maintain safety during playground time, teach and assist with simple craft projects.

Maintain a fun, upbeat, and positive environment while encouraging the campers to learn their performance material and make big choices in their roles. Sing, dance, and act with the kids. Read storybooks and help kids make up their own plays! Play with legos & blocks, do puzzles, color pictures -- have a blast while encouraging kids to be creative!

Creative Dramatics campers learn portions of the camp show to perform alongside the older campers who have auditioned for the speaking roles. The camp performances take place on Friday afternoons or evenings, depending on the camp week.

Qualifications: Experience working with young children, and at least some previous experience with theatre/music/dance/performing arts is a requirement. Most important is being kind, organized, a good communicator, positive & professional, having a sense of humor, able to work by oneself or with others, patient with young kids, and the ability to be flexible while also maintaining order in your classroom.

Reliable transportation is a requirement. Teaching Artists may be scheduled at various camp locations throughout the summer (camp locations in Buckhead, Brookhaven, Decatur, Marietta/East Cobb, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Gwinnett, Tucker, and Chamblee) so they must have their own car.

Teaching Artists are hired for 2-10 weeks of the summer for full-time work. Teaching Artists may continue to teach with us part time/full time in the school year for our daytime and after-school programming, workshops, and productions.

Teaching Artists must provide a current background check, or be willing to have one completed before being offered a position with our company.

Please submit the following to

A Headshot, 3 References, Teaching Resume and Cover Letter outlining why you think you would be perfect for this position and what your summer and next school-year availability is (including specific weeks this summer and if you are available for Friday night camp shows)-- we can't wait to hear from you!
