Studio Assistant

Honey Comb Studio

Job Title: Studio Assistant

Job Type: Full-time, salaried, 40 hours/week. Flex schedule available after 3 month orientation period.

Education: BFA in Ceramics, or 3 years of commensurate experience in a ceramics studio.

About Honeycomb Studio: A women owned and operated business founded in 2012, Honeycomb Studio is a handmade ceramics studio. Our products are sold in over 250 independent retail stores, national retailers (including West Elm, and Schoolhouse Electric), and can be found in homes around the world.

Responsibilities:

The Studio Assistant would be responsible for the creation of a specific amount of product to be poured, trimmed, and/or glazed on a daily basis. To create our products, we utilize a combination of slip casting and slab building, so experience with these specific methods of production would be helpful, although not necessary.

Maintaining a clean studio space is a shared responsibility and encompasses chores such as the disposal of leftover clay slurry, scraping tables, moving bags of plaster, moving and cleaning 5 gallon buckets, taking the (daily) trash out, sweeping, mopping and cleaning your own tools.

Specific tasks may include (but are not limited to): loading and unloading kilns, all aspects of product production (pouring, pullings, cleaning molds/products), mixing glazes, studio maintenance and organization, sanding, waxing and glazing products, managing material inventory.

Requirements:

Days at Honeycomb Studio are sometimes all-hands-on-deck, and everyone chips in to help with a specific project. Other days, the studio assistant may be required to work independently on a project. Although guidance is always available and questions are encouraged, the individual in this position must be self-motivated and be able to anticipate the next job that needs to be done. The candidate must have extreme attention to detail and be well organized. They must also be a QUICK learner and worker with excellent time management skills. This is a rewarding and collaborative workspace, but our work is production based, so the candidate must not be adverse to repetitive tasks and processes. Good playlist/ podcast recommendations and sense of humor are a plus.

Physical Requirements: MUST be able to lift 50lbs. Also must be able to work standing for 4-5  hours at a time. This is a creative workplace that looks great on Instagram, but it is also a very messy and physically taxing job.

Please submit a resume and cover letter to courtney@honeycomb-studio.com for consideration. Applications without a cover letter will NOT be considered.

We are an equal opportunity employer.
