The Director of Production is a senior staff member and reports directly to the Managing Director in support of the mission of the theatre and the artistic vision of the Artistic Director. The Director of Production is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Production Department, ensuring that all Alliance productions are executed within budget in a safe, efficient, and timely manner while maintaining artistic excellence and integrity.
Alliance Theatre is a Tony award-winning regional theatre, producing 12 plays each season across three stages: the 650-seat LORT B Coca-Cola Stage, the 200-seat LORT D Hertz Stage, and the 350-seat TYA Rich Theatre. Alliance productions encompass a wide range of subjects and aesthetics, including intimate dramas, plays for youth & families, and Broadway-bound musicals. The annual operating budget is approximately $16M. The Alliance is an arts partner of the Woodruff Arts Center, one of the largest arts centers in the world, which is also home to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the High Museum of Art. The Woodruff Arts Center has an annual operating budget of approximately $100M and serves over 800,000 patrons annually.
The Director of Production, in close collaboration with the production department heads, oversees 40+ full-time staff members as they plan for, build, rehearse, run, and support every production. Responsibilities include budget creation and oversight, negotiating and executing designer contracts, departmental recruitment and hiring, and supervision of the production calendar. Direct reports include the Technical Director, Stage Operations Manager, Props Manager, Director of Costume Shop and Wardrobe, Lighting & Projections Department Director, Resident Sound Designer, Assistant Production Manager, and Stage Management staff. The Director of Production works closely with the theatre’s leadership to ensure the balance of artistic quality, personnel, budget, and schedule.
