Awareness for Actors: Alexander Technique Intro Workshop

Monday, February 25th, 2019 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Rehearsal Hall B, 3rd floor Alliance Theatre

Actors are trained to respond truthfully in moments of imaginary circumstances. Yet inevitably actors will experience moments of tension, rigidity and stress that interfere with their ability to respond in a believable way. The Alexander Technique teaches actors how to release unnecessary stress and tension in themselves, thereby allowing for the availability of their most natural and authentic responses in performances and in daily living. In this workshop, actors will become more familiar with their breath, body and voice so that they can better adapt and embody their characters unique expressions. This mind/body method has been helping actors improve their performances for over a hundred years and is a part of several training programs including Yale School of Drama, Juilliard in NYC, ACT in San Fran and Howard Fine Studio in LA, to name a few.

Morgan Rysdon is a nationally certified Alexander Technique teacher and founder of Center Studio. With an active private practice in New York City and Atlanta, she helps actors, singers and dancers elevate their performances as well as recover from chronic pain, injury, stress and anxiety. She holds a BA in acting and performing from Illinois State University and spent time acting professionally in Chicago working at theaters such as Victory Gardens Theatre, The Redmoon Theatre Company and The Hypocrites among others. She gained her teaching certification from The American Center for the Alexander Technique in NYC. Committed to helping others, Morgan teaches private lessons and group classes with a focus on building self-awareness, self-confidence and poise through improving the overall function of an individuals mind, body, breath and voice.
