Invitation to participate in CatchLight’s Behind the Lens series
The series, featured on our blog and social media channels, aims to provide visual storytellers a space to share stories and personal projects, as well as provide unique perspectives and insight into the process behind the creation of images.
In response to the current economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, on the mostly freelance field of visual storytelling, we are increasing our standard rate to $450 USD for the next several months.
We are primarily interested in longer term projects that show a unique and personal approach from the visual storyteller’s perspective. Selection will be determined on the basis of existing work. This opportunity is not an assignment. We are not trying to provide breaking news and we strongly discourage anyone from taking risks by going out for any non-essential reason until the CDC declares it safe. Series should include 15 to 21 images, which could be drawn from an archive or be part of an on-going body of work. During the takeover, you will be featured on our Instagram account with 21k followers, other CatchLight social media channels with a collective reach of more than 40k and our blog. We ask that you complete a minimum of three “shout-outs” during your week to @catchlight.io on your own social media channels.
In addition to highlighting timely, important work on our Instagram feed, this series provides our audiences and community with behind-the-scenes insights into the visual storytelling process. To further inform our audiences of your process, we ask that participants complete a Behind the Lens questionnaire (to be filled out via email once your takeover has been confirmed, see example here).
We are currently creating our Behind the Lens calendar schedule for 2020. If you would like to be considered as a participant, please email email@example.com with the subject line Behind the Lens Submission:
A brief project description and folder or link to your photo series. (We will collaborate on an edit that fits with our Instagram grid; we post in cadence of three)
Information about where the photos have already been posted previously, exhibited, published, etc.
Optional: A strategy for how this takeover could help you. Do you have something specific you’d like to promote? We’re flexible and eager to help.
Optional: Take over CatchLight’s Story on the first day of posting to introduce yourself and project
